The sea is the inspiration behind our wine and our aim was to create the perfect accompaniment to go with any type of seafood. There is nothing quite like the freshness and delicate flavors found in seafood. You need a wine with good flavors and crisp acidity to complement and even enhance these flavors.
This is why we have created our Half Shell wine ; a blend of the best grape varieties grown in the Pacific Northwest, which our winemaker has expertly put together to get the best out of each variety. The Pinot Gris brings its floral and crisp character, the Riesling great fruit intensity and the Chardonnay completes the blend with elegance and roundness.
Half Shell, the perfect seafood wine!
The grapes used in our Half Shell wine are grown on the Wahluke Slope in Washington State in the USA. The various types of soils found in this area were laid down during the historic Missoula floods 10-15,000 years ago - mostly cobbles, with some sandy areas.
The region is characterized by high desert conditions: cold nights which give the wine the right levels of acidity and purity of fruit, followed by warm dry days which enable optimum ripeness for the grapes.
Half Shell grapes are fermented in stainless steel tanks to preserve the purity of the fruit and the crisp flavors that bring seafood alive.
Delicate floral aromas are brought to the nose with honeyed undertones while flavors of crisp citrus, Asian pear and a touch of orange blossom lend a graceful acidity. The finish is light and elegant.
The perfect pairing alongside Oysters on the half-shell or with panko-crusted crab cakes on a bed of herbed greens and topped with a lemon-chive aioli. View the recipe here
